Glen Midgley has been contracted by Manchester City to provide genealogical input into their earlier incarnation as St Mark's West Gorton Football Club. His work has been praised by the club's historian and has helped to unearth facts about the early team members, the club's founders and its significant place in the industrial revolution and 19th century political movements. One of the greatest achievements was to locate a photograph for the very first time of the Connell family including its most significant members, Anna and Arthur, and to track down the family's living descendants in England and America. He has also located living descendants of the Historic First Twelve players of the inaugural St Mark's team. A book telling the whole story, including publication of the family photographs for the first time, is in the process of being compiled.
